3D Medical Fabrication
Providing rapid prototyping of a wide range of multiple biomaterials in 3D.
Applied Bioinformatics Laboratory
The Applied Bioinformatics Laboratory (ABiL) provides custom solutions for a wide variety of bioinformatics data analysis challenges. ABiL scientists are adept at all kinds of large-scale ‘omics’ analyses: DNA-seq, RNA-seq, metagenomics, proteomics, etc.
Biomechanics Core
The Biomechanics Core Facility conducts mechanical analysis and testing of biological and engineered materials.
Biomolecular Analysis Core
Biomolecules form the basis of life. Biomolecular Analysis involves the characterization of polymeric biomolecules such as DNA, RNA, protein, carbohydrates and lipids as well as single biomolecules.
Biopolymer Characterization Core
The purpose of the Biopolymer Characterization core is to assist users and provide them with the appropriate instrumentation to perform their analytical experiments within the wide range of protein and other biopolymer characterization.
Cellular Analysis and Cytometry Core
The cell is the basic unit of the organism. Cellular Analysis involves the characterization of cell populations using fluid-based transport systems. Flow Cytometry characterizes cell populations based on their light scatter and fluorescence properties.
Genome Analysis Core
The BioMark Genetic Analysis Platform is a fully integrated system enabling analysis of gene expression, genotyping, mutant detection, and absolute quantization of nucleic-acid sequences utilizing Dynamic Array Integrated Fluidic Chip (IFC) technology.
High Throughput DNA Sequencing Core
The sequencing core at Georgia Tech houses an Illumina HiSeq 2500, a state-of-the-art machine capable of ultra-high-throughput sequencing that can be used in various facets of biological sciences.
Histology Core
The Parker H. Petit Institute's histology core is a research-based laboratory that specializes in the microscopic analysis of engineered, clinical, fresh, routine, and non-routine specimens.

Microcomputed Tomography Core
Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) is an X-ray imaging technique used for high resolution, nondestructive assessment of materials including musculoskeletal tissues and engineered biomaterials.

Certain techniques of molecular evolution – the generation and selection of functional molecules using biological mechanisms “in the test tube” – are well established, but still only used by laboratories expert in the art.
Neuro Design Suite
The Neuro Design Suite (NDS), a state-of-the-art facility for neuroscience research consisting of three major rigs, allow researchers to perform manual and/or automated in vitro, in vivo patch clamping andin vivo extracellular electrophysiology recordings

The Optical Microscopy Core provides state-of-the-art microscopy tools to Georgia Tech researchers and the surrounding academic and industry community.

Policies for Undergraduate Researchers Working in Our Core Facilities
The Petit Institute's state-of-the-art research facilities, known as “Core Facilities,” serve as a shared resource for the bioengineering and bioscience community. Consultation, training, and technical support are available for a variety of research projects. Users have access to over 150 pieces of lab equipment totaling over $37 million.
The Petit Institute serves as the hub of several core facilities which are available to affiliated labs at a highly subsidized rate.
